Red Light Cameras

CAMERAS INCENTIVIZE SHORT YELLOW LIGHTS
Studies show that short yellow times are dangerous to
drivers. They don't give the motorist enough time to
slow down (even when you are going the speed limit) and
react to a light change. A 1 second reduction in yellow
light time doubles accidents. Some counties in Florida
have been caught shortening the yellow light, leading to
more accidents... and more revenue.
CAMERAS VIOLATE DUE PROCESS RIGHTS
Due process rights include the right to a speedy trial,
proper notification of the offense, presumption of
innocence, and the right to confront a witness in court.
Ticket cameras throw these rights out and substitute an
administrative hearing where you are deemed "guilty"
before you walk into the room.
INCREASING THE "ALL RED" IS MORE EFFECTIVE
If counties were truly interested in preventing T-Bone
accidents at intersections, they would increase the
amount of time when the lights are red in all
directions. When people run busy intersections, it
really is a mistake, not a purposeful action that an
after-the-fact ticket could ever hope to prevent.
RED LIGHT CAMERAS ACTUALLY CAUSE MORE ACCIDENTS
Studies show that red light cameras increase certain
types of accidents where they are used. A North Carolina
A&T study showed that cameras failed to reduce accidents
at intersections and actually increased the number of
rear end and injury crashes at red light cameras
intersections. They called them a "detriment to safety"
in their 57 month study.
My opponent - Rep. Passidomo - fully supports this fleecing of
